It's time, once again, for the Dog Days of Podcasting, a call for podcasters to try to put out a podcast every day in August. For more information on that, and to hear all the shows, go to dogdaysofpodcasting.com.

Here at the comedy4cast studio I always take this month to provide you with some interesting, yet totally useless Odd News. And this year, I'm doubling the useless with not just one but TWO Odd News stories that I think deserve each other. So, let's have some fun with "Odd News Times Twos"!

MUSIC: INTRO THEME MUSIC UP AND OUT.

SFX: TRANSITION WHOOSH.

STORY NUMBERS 1 AND 2 ARE COMBINED.

CLINTON

Today's first odd news story start on a sunny day in Temecula, California. Inside the home of Hunter and Jenna Perrin, Hunter is busy watching TV and Jenna is in the next room, practicing yoga.

Suddenly, there's a knock on the front door.

SFX: KNOCK ON WOOODEN DOOR. DOOR OPENS.

It's a neighbor, calling out with a mixture of excitement and panic "They've landed!"

What's happening? An alien invasion? We'll find out in a minute.

SFX: JET PLANE/WHOOSH TRAVELS BY.

In the meantime, for our second story, let's travel across the Pacific to South Korea and the Muju Ski Resort, where we hear the skiing is just fine.

But we're not headed to the bunny slope. We need to look up. There in the sky. Do you see it? Is it a bird? A plane? A franchised, copyrighted, costumed, superhero?

Well, whatever it is, as skiers continue to zip on down the mountain, some of them begin to notice it, too. It's actually been flying around up there for two hours. But now it's getting closer. Fast.

Oh. It's a paraglider. And they're waving. Let's be friendly and wave back.

Yes. Now they're waving even more intensely, especially at the skiers on the slope. Very friendly.

Oh. Wait. They want the skiers to get out of the way. They're making an emergency landing on the intermediate slope. Without skis?! Listen, I'm no expert, but I think you can get fined for that!

CLINTON (cont'd)

The paraglider did make it down to the ground.

SFX: THUD AS PARAGLIDER CRASHES INTO THE SNOW.

Authorities rushed to the scene to make sure the pilot was okay, the unnamed aerialist was fine. And the nearby skiers all shrugged, thinking it was an odd way to avoid waiting in line for the ski lift.

Now, let's return to the home of the Perrin's in California, collect our frequent flyer miles and discover why their neighbor was so worked up over the fact that "They've landed."

The neighbor motions and says something about the back yard.

Hunter and Jenna rush through the house and slid open the back door.

SFX: SLIDING DOOR OPENS.

Only to find a basket full of people waving at them. And, when the Perrins look up above the basket, there is a giant hot air balloon towering above the trees in their back yard.

SFX: FLAME FROM A HOT AIR BALLOON'S FIRE.

CLINTON (cont'd)

It seems the pilot and 12 passengers had set off for a pleasant afternoon of sailing over the local vineyards. Unfortunately, a change in the wind direction and a nearly-depleted fuel supply changed those plans.

With great skill, the pilot managed to guide the balloon back to terra firma. In this case, the Perrin's very small back yard -- without hitting the house, damaging the trees and just barely touching the top of the fence.

SFX: THUD OF BALLOON BASKET PLOPPING DOWN ON THE GROUND.

CLINTON (cont'd)

Still, there's a bucket o'people in their back yard, so Hunter and Jenna do what any sane person would do -- they go out into their back yard to meet their unexpected house guests and introduced themselves.

SFX: UNINTELLIGABLE CONVERSATION.

CLINTON (cont'd)

I'm guessing more than one of the passengers is asking to use their bathroom.

SFX: FLAME FROM A HOT AIR BALLOON'S FIRE.

CLINTON (cont'd)

Eventually fuel arrived, allowing the pilot to move the balloon out to the street, where it was then loaded onto a flatbed truck to be taken back to home base.

Oh. And one more thing, the company that runs the balloon ride? They promise a free souvenir photo with every flight. In this case, however, the photo includes two extra people, Hunter and Jenna Perrin.

SFX: LENS OF CAMERA SNAPS.

CLINTON (cont'd)

And their rather unusual landing pad.
